About The Author
David was born and raised in Yuba City, California, a small agriculturally based community roughly 40 miles north of Sacramento. A 1986 graduate of Yuba City High School, David joined the United States Marine Corps in his junior year and entered boot camp in October 1986. Upon completion, David began Infantry Training School at Camp Pendleton and volunteered for reconnaissance training where he received orders to the U.S. Marine Corps Amphibious Reconnaissance Course at the Naval Amphibious Base in Coronado, California.
He then received orders for the 3rd Reconnaissance Battalion, 3rd Marine Division, Okinawa, Japan where he was assigned to Charlie and Bravo Companies. David won a series of promotional boards and was meritoriously promoted to Sergeant (E-5) by the commanding officer of the 3rd Marine Division, Major General Stackpole. David was honorably discharged on 17 September 1991.
Returning home to Northern California, David immediately enrolled in Butte Community College, majoring in civil engineering. After two years at Butte, David transferred to California State University, Chico and switched majors to Physical Education. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in physical education in 1998 with an emphasis in athletic strength and conditioning and a minor in mathematics and earned a Master of Arts degree with an emphasis in biomechanics in 2001.
In his off-time, David enjoys time with his wife, daughter, their Boston Terrier Charlie and cat, Olive. They enjoy fishing, camping, snow skiing, and travel.
After a brief return to teaching, David focused on his writing and recently signed a book deal with Osprey Publishing in February 2024. Titled ‘Sweet P’: The Life and Loss of the USS Princeton, it has a projected release date of October 2024.
